Shakespeare is regarded as the greatest British poet and playwright in the English language. People also name him "the Bard". He wrote hundreds of works: sonnets, plays, poems and other verses. His work has been translated in probably all languages and they are still very popular everywhere in the world. He was also an actor at the Globe, his theatre, which is still active in London.
Many plays are still staged at the Globe and attract many people. He wrote three types of plays: comedies, tragedies and histories.Some of his plays are about love and family rules, like "Romeo and Juliet", and others are about past kings and rulers, like "King Lear".
Shakespeare added new words to the English language and helped make it what it is today. In 2016 it will be his 400 (four-hundreth) anniversary and people across the world will honour him.
