Moldova is still a mostly rural region. Of course, there are cities, between which Iași, the biggest in the area.
Some buildings worth mentioning in the region are the Culture Palace in Iași, Stephen the Great's citadel in Suceava, the Neamț at Piatra Neamț citadel, and, of course, the famous painted monasteries: Moldovița, Sucevița, Voroneț, Arbore, Humor, Pătrăuți and Probota. These eight monasteries are considered wonders of culture and civilization and they have made it to the UNESCO list of protected sites.
Voroneț, especially, was considered a wonder of mural art due to the blue color of the exterior walls, color which has not been seen in any other building from that time.
